Model AO Tractor 1937 -- 1940
A new model ''AO'' Tractor was announced in late 1936 for the 1937 model year.
John Deere called it the ''Streamlined'' Grove and Orchard Tractor, which
eventually led collectors to refer to it as the ''AOS'' . The new ''AO'' was reduced
in width, height, and wheelbase, making it more nimble in the often confined areas
of orchards. Further, the streamlined grille, fenders, and cowl gently brushed
fruit-laden branches aside. The ''AO'' Streamlined only stayed in production untill
October 1940. Initially, it was estimated that the build rate would be approximately
1000 pieces over a year. As it was, fewer than 900 were produced over the nearly
four year. Because of the physical beating that orchard tractors were often subjected
to, relatively few of them have survived the pas 75 years. A true ''Centennial'' Tractor,
the 1937 ''AO'' Streamlined was a 100th-year product of John Deere. This 1:16 scale
model accurately depicts the details from that time, right down to round-spoke front
wheels. The full-skirted orchard frnders were a $28.00 Option. Often regarden t o be
the most beautiful of all Johnd Deere two-cylinders tractors, the ''AO'' Streamlined was
chosen as the offficial model for the 1755th anniversary of John Deere's first steel plow
in 1837
