John Deere Model ''B'' Series Farm tractors were produced from late 1934 through 1952,
and more were built and sold than any other series in the history of the company.
They were produced in a wide variety of configurations to handle many job assignments: 
Row-crops, small grain, orchards and vegetables. Some models are quite common, while 
others are very scarce. The rarest of all was the ''BW-40'', designed to handle specialized field
requirements in an area of California. The result was a tractor capable of being set at a 40-inch  
tread with steel wheels, an only slightly more with rubber tires - a tractor so narrow that ''John Deere''
'could not be cast into the rear axle housing. While the John Deere Tractor Company estimated the annual requiremnt to be 150 tractors, only six were built. THe ''BW-40'' was discontinued, and later replaced (in 1938) by the longer taller, and slightly wider '''BWH-40''.
