The John Deere Series '''P'' Tractor, built only in 1930, was designed specifically to meet the 
requirements for potato farming. It was unique from all other tractors of the '''GP'' Series in that the rear-wheel tread of 68 inches, narrower than that of a regular wide-tread, was obtained through the use of shorter quills.
Special rear wheels, eight inches wide instead of the usual ten-inch wheels, and 16 lugs instead of 24, helped to prevent excessive crop damage.

Only 203 Series '''P''' Tractors were manufractured. Inronically, the last 53 were rebuilt 5-3/4-inch bore 
''GP'' standard-tread tractors remaining in inventory. The '''P'''is among the rarest and most valuable of all John Deere models.
